Friendly: Harriman-Annous makes unofficial debut for Arsenal, Newcastle's Murphy scores
Published: July 27, 2025
Quad-national forward Andre Harriman-Annous made his unofficial debut for Arsenal as they beat fellow Premier League side Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly in Singapore on Sunday.
Eligible for the national teams of Nigeria, Ghana, England and Lebanon, the 17-year-old stepped onto the pitch in the 77th minute, wearing the number 71 on the back of his jersey.
Harriman-Annous was an unused substitute during Arsenal's 1-0 win over Samuel Chukwueze's AC Milan on July 23.
He was not the only teenager of Nigerian descent in action against the Magpies, with Ethan Nwaneri and Josh Nichols also entering the game as substitutes in the second half.
On the opposing side, Nigeria Football Federation target Jacob Murphy and William Osula also participated in the friendly.
Martin Ødegaard scored a late penalty, won by Max Dowman, to seal a 3-2 win for the Gunners over the Magpies in the pre-season friendly.
After Anthony Elanga gave Newcastle an early lead, quickfire goals involving Kai Havertz, one finished by Mikel Merino and another resulting in an own goal by Alex Murphy, put Arsenal ahead.
Murphy equalised for Newcastle in the 58th minute before Ødegaard’s decisive spot-kick secured the victory.
Harriman-Annous trained with Arsenal's first team on multiple occasions last season but has yet to receive a call-up for an official game.
The Hale End Academy graduate earned a spot in Arsenal’s travelling squad to Asia following a remarkable season, during which he found the net on his full debuts in the UEFA Youth League, Premier League 2, FA Youth Cup, EFL Trophy and U18 Premier League Cup.
