Social: Everton forward Payne, Brighton newbie Nnadozie react to Super Falcons' historic WAFCON win
Published: July 28, 2025
Nigeria's dramatic 3-2 victory over Morocco in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) continues to generate jubilant reactions, with key Super Falcons players taking to social media to celebrate the team’s record-setting achievement.
The Super Falcons, who came from two goals down to defeat the hosts in Rabat, claimed their 10th WAFCON title — the most continental trophies ever won by a national football team.
The victory saw them move ahead of China and the United States, who both have nine continental titles in Asia and North America, respectively.
Everton forward Toni Payne shared her delight on Instagram, posting simply: “Winner winner,” a concise but powerful celebration of Nigeria’s achievement.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie — who made crucial saves late in the final to secure the win — offered a more reflective message following the emotional triumph.
"Champion of Africa. Champion of France. I return all glory to you God," the 24-year-old wrote on her Instagram page, combining national glory with her club success.
Nnadozie’s reference to France harks back to her recent Coupe de France Féminine victory with Paris FC, before she sealed a high-profile move to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women’s Super League.
Her commanding performance in goal during the final — particularly in the closing stages as Morocco pressed for an equaliser — showcased why Brighton were eager to secure her services.
Nnadozie’s heroics were instrumental in Nigeria holding on to their slender lead after Jennifer Echegini’s 88th-minute winner.
