'In two or three days' – Inter Milan president reveals this week is crucial for Lookman deal
Published: July 28, 2025
Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed that the club is in advanced discussions to sign Nigeria international Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, adding that a resolution could come within the next few days.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year has been a standout performer for Atalanta since joining from RB Leipzig in August 2022.
Lookman enjoyed a sensational 2024-2025 campaign, netting 20 goals in all competitions, including his strike against Spanish giants Real Madrid in the Champions League, and registered seven assists from 40 all-competition appearances.
His performances have attracted interest from several European clubs, but Inter Milan appear to be leading the race.
Speaking to Italian media, Marotta said this week will be decisive in determining whether the deal goes through.
"We are in talks for Ademola Lookman. We want him, but we also respect Atalanta," he said, according to Fabrizio Romano.
"In two or three days, we hope to proceed and be able to get the deal done. Otherwise, we will move on and focus on other players."
Inter, who are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the Serie A and Champions League campaign, view Lookman as a versatile and explosive attacking option.
However, the Nerazzurri are mindful of Atalanta’s stance and will walk away if a deal cannot be reached swiftly.
Lookman, who has two years left on his contract with Atalanta, has already agreed personal terms with Inter Milan.
