Arsenal see second sister depart as teenage Nigerian striker cuts ties with European champions
Published: August 08, 2025
Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that Nigeria-eligible player Ayomide Junaid has brought her time at Arsenal Women to an end, just months after her sister Omotara's exit.
The teenage striker parted ways with the European champions this summer and recently travelled to the United States with her brother, Tolu Junaid, who took part in the Golden Eaglets' training camp in 2023.
Ayomide, who earned her maiden call-up to the England U15 national team in March 2025, has put pen to paper on a deal with Benfica's Residential Academy.
According to the official website, the Benfica Residential Academy is the world's premier soccer academy located in the Tampa, Florida area brings esteemed Benfica’s rich heritage (founded in 1904) and proven training methodologies from Portugal to the United States.
After an eight-year stay in England alongside her elder sister Omotara Junaid, Ayomide has now returned to the United States.
Omotara has ended her spell with the Gunners, attributing the decision to the absence of opportunities to break into the first team.
She felt undervalued and was unhappy with plans by Arsenal coaches to convert her into a right-back.
The 17-year-old has departed Arsenal without making her official debut, although she featured in a pre-season friendly against Southampton last year.
A member of the Young Lionesses squad to the 2024 Fifa U17 Women's World Cup, Omotara has joined four-time NCAA Division I Tournament champions Florida State Seminoles women's soccer for the 2025 season.
Also eligible to represent the United States, she was appointed captain of Arsenal Women’s U21 team for the 2024–25 season.
