Ezenwata celebrates Flying Eagles call-up with spectacular goal for Chelsea at Otten Cup
Published: August 17, 2025
Tri-national striker Chizaram Ezenwata celebrated his maiden invitation to Nigeria's U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, in style by scoring a spectacular goal for Chelsea in a 2-0 victory over Jeonbuk FC at the prestigious Otten Cup in the Netherlands.
The Otten Cup, organised annually by Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, is an international youth tournament featuring leading U19 teams from around the world and staged at De Herdgang in Eindhoven.
As exclusively reported by allnigeriasoccer.com two days ago, Ezenwata has accepted an invitation from the Nigeria Football Federation to join the Flying Eagles in preparation for the 2025 Fifa U20 World Cup.
Before linking up with the national team, the 16-year-old forward made headlines with a moment of individual brilliance for Chelsea U19s, coached by Nigerian tactician Hassan Sulaiman.
Ezenwata dispossessed a Jeonbuk defender on the edge of the box, controlled neatly, and rifled the ball into the roof of the net from a tight angle — a strike later voted the XXL Nutrition Goal of the Day by tournament organisers.
Despite his standout contribution, Chelsea finished eighth overall after losing 3-1 to RB Leipzig in their classification match.
Ezenwata, who is eligible to represent Nigeria, Cameroon and England, is widely regarded as one of Chelsea's most promising prospects and is expected to sign his first professional contract with the club upon turning 17 in September.
