PL2: Stoke's Fawunmi brace; Southampton's Oyekunle, Wolves' Olagunju, Derby's Osayande strike
Published: October 04, 2025
It was a memorable evening for players of Nigerian descent in the Premier League 2 on Friday, October 3, as four youngsters found the net for their respective clubs.
Former West Ham attacker Favour Fawunmi continued his impressive form for Stoke City, taking his goal involvement to five for the season after netting a brace in a 3-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers.
Fawunmi opened the scoring in the 49th minute with a well-timed header at the back post before doubling his tally eight minutes later, both goals assisted by Laurence Giani.
His fine performances at youth level have not gone unnoticed, with first-team manager Mark Robins rewarding him with starting appearances in the League Cup ties against Walsall and Bradford, as well as places on the bench in the opening rounds of the Championship campaign.
Meanwhile, Nicholas Oyekunle, who made history as the all-time top scorer in the U18 Premier League with 38 goals, maintained his prolific form.
The England U18 international struck again in the Saints' 4-1 triumph over Derby County, doubling his side's advantage just before half-time to take his season tally to four goals.
Adisa Osayande grabbed Derby's consolation late in the game, finishing off a well-worked set-piece to deny Southampton a clean sheet.
Elsewhere, at the Aggborough Stadium, Saheed Olagunju was on target for Wolverhampton Wanderers in their thrilling 4-3 comeback win against Leicester City.
The young defender reignited Wolves hopes in the 73rd minute, smashing home from close range to spark a turnaround after his side had trailed by two goals.
