2025 Flying Eagles invitee nets brace but Chelsea youth lose 5-goal thriller to Man City

2025 Flying Eagles invitee Chizaram Ezenwata continued his brilliant start to the season by scoring a brace as Chelsea were beaten 3-2 by Manchester City in an U18 Premier League Cup encounter on Saturday afternoon.

The dual national centre-forward was invited to a Flying Eagles training camp before the 2025 Fifa U20 World Cup, but club commitments prevented him from travelling to Abuja.

Ezenwata has scored in every game Chelsea have played in the U18 Premier League this season, netting six goals in five matches prior to today's clash against the Young Citizens.

The Chelsea number 9 broke the deadlock from the spot in the 20th minute, but City turned it around with Teddie Lamb equalizing in the 33rd minute and Floyd Samba scoring a penalty of his own in the 45th minute.

With almost the last kickoff the first half, Ezenwata rattled in the equalizer to send both teams into the break on level terms.

Less than a minute into the second half, Manchester City had their lead back as Tyrone Samba drilled the ball into the bottom corner.

Although Ezenwata is the main man for Chelsea U18s, he has yet to make his debut in the UEFA Youth League, having remained an unused substitute in back-to-back matches against Bayern Munich and Benfica.

Also eligible for England and Cameroon, the London native was named in the latest Young Lions squad for the double header against France U18s at St. George's Park.
