Son of ex-Super Eagles star an unused substitute for Chelsea in win over Liverpool

Seventeen-year-old Landon Emenalo, son of former Nigeria international Michael Emenalo, was an unused substitute in Chelsea's 2–1 victory over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

It was the first time the young midfielder had been included in a Premier League matchday squad.

Landon, who is capable of playing in several midfield and defensive positions, has been progressing steadily through Chelsea's academy and is regarded as one of the club's promising prospects.

The teenager had previously been listed as an unused substitute during Chelsea's UEFA Conference League clash with Legia Warsaw in April, marking his first involvement with the senior team.

In the win over Liverpool, Moisés Caicedo opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 14th minute with a superb strike from the edge of the box, before Cody Gakpo levelled for the visitors in the 63rd minute.

Estêvão then netted a dramatic winner in stoppage time to seal all three points for the Blues.

Landon's father, Michael Emenalo, represented Nigeria at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States, where he impressed as cover for the injured Benedict Iroha.

The promising teenager is leaning towards representing England at international level as he is provisionally cap-tied to the 1966 world champions.
