England's Manchester United Star Doubtful For Friendly Vs Nigeria
Published: May 30, 2018
Manchester United star Phil Jones is doubtful for England's friendly against Nigeria this coming Saturday, according to reports.
Sky Sports has reported that the central defender may not be included in England's matchday squad to face Nigeria at Wembley as his partner is due to give birth, meaning he may be allowed to miss the World Cup warm-up.
Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate has three players classed as central defenders available for selection in the shape of John Stones (Man City), Harry Maguire (Leicester City) and Gary Cahill (Chelsea).
Jones played on the same England U21 team as Nigeria star Victor Moses and the defender was named in the starting line-up when the Chelsea wing-back earned his solitary cap for the Young Lions at that level.
Danny Welbeck, Danny Rose, Kieran Trippier, Jordan Henderson and Kyle Walker who are all heading to Russia with the Three Lions also played alongside Moses in the England youth setup before he committed his international future to the Super Eagles.
The Chelsea number fifteen will start training with the national team on Thursday, May 31 after he was given two days off.
