England Vs Nigeria Preview, Predictions & Head-To-Head
Published: June 02, 2018
With the World Cup set to kick off in just two-week time, England and Nigeria are set to grab the momentum by getting the results in the upcoming warm-up friendlies.
Whilst Saturday’s tie at Wembley will be the first of two checks for the Three Lions, Nigeria have already been in action on Monday playing only a disappointing 1-1 draw to continental rivals Congo DR.
Bouncing back after such a poor showing will be quite a challenging task for Gernot Rohr and his men.
The German manager generally has a decent quality in his ranks with some of the Premier League stars set to defend the green colors of the Super Eagles in Russia.
Victor Moses was rested in the mentioned draw with Congo and he should make an appearance here against England, while Odion Ighalo should be the main target in the final third.
England vs Nigeria: Head-to-Head
This will only be the third head to head encounter between England and Nigeria.
Interestingly, only one goal was seen in last two meetings and it ended up in Nigeria’s net back in a friendly in 1994.
The clash at the World Cup in Korea/Japan back in 2002 ended in a goalless draw.
England vs Nigeria: Predictions
Gareth Southgate’s formation with three center-back and two wing-backs brought phenomenal results to England from the defensive point of view.
The Three Lions have been very tough to break down of late shipping just one goal in last four friendlies even though the opposition included the names of Germany, Brazil, Netherlands and Italy.
The attacking line struggled a bit in these ties, but it was all without Harry Kane who is expected to lead the line both here against Nigeria and at the World Cup in Russia.
The striker has had an amazing campaign for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and he bagged seven goals in last six appearances for the national side.
