Man Utd icon namechecks Osimhen as he reveals Napoli are a team with direct players
Published: November 02, 2022Napoli were beaten for the first time this season, losing 2-0 to Liverpool in a UEFA Champions League tie at Anfield on Tuesday night with the goals coming late in the game.
Five minutes to the end, Mohameh Salah poked in the rebound after a powerful header from Núñez was stopped on the line by the Napoli goalkeeper.
Eight minutes effectively into added time, Núñez got his goal as he blasted the ball into the net after Van Dijk's header was too powerful to hold.
Liverpool's win over Napoli wasn't enough for them to top Group A of the Champions League but they got through to the round of sixteen with fifteen points accumulated.
Napoli breezed through Group A, scoring twenty goals - more than any other team in the competition
Speaking post-match. BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand admitted that Napoli look like a team no one will want to face in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
The Manchester United icon namechecked Victor Osimhen as he spoke about the direct players in the Napoli squad.
In his post-match analysis on BT Sport, Ferdinand said : "They've got players that are direct and want to hurt the opposition every time they get the ball. He (Kvaratskhelia) is one of them, Osimhen is another.
"They've got other players, players that want to run and commit defenders, and that freedom and that belief from the coaching staff and manager for them to do that....
"Other teams in the next stage of this competition, Napoli is one of the main teams you probably you don't want to get."
Osimhen played just three matches in the group stage of the Champions League due to injury and was on the scoresheet once against Ajax Amsterdam.
