Shoretire battles Chelsea starlet, 5 others for Premier League 2 POTM
Published: November 04, 2022
Shola Shoretire has been shortlisted for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for October 2022.
The Manchester United striker was in brilliant form last month, scoring four goals in the Premier League 2 while providing an assist, and was also on the scoresheet in a Papa Johns Trophy match against League One side Fleetwood Town.
On a personal level, he got his month off to a promising start by scoring for the Red Devils' development squad in a 6-1 loss to Blackburn Rovers on October 1, before grabbing his first assist of the season in a 3-3 draw versus Brighton & Hove a week later.
His standout performance came against Chelsea on October 15 when he netted two goals in stoppage time to help Manchester United produce a brilliant fightback to eventually draw 3-3.
Three days later, Shoretire scored another stoppage time equaliser against Fleetwood Town and his fifth and last goal for the month of October was against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Anglo-Nigerian is competing for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award alongside six other shortlisted players namely Harry Leonard (Blackburn Rovers), Omari Hutchinson (Chelsea), Charlie Whitaker (Everton), Oliver O'Neill (Fulham), Joe White (Newcastle United) and Ateef Konate (Nottingham Forest).
Shoretire was a non-playing substitute for the first team in their 1-0 win over Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday evening - his first squad involvement in 2022-2023.
