'Kan u believe it' - Super Eagles legend relives Arsenal hat-trick at Chelsea
Published: November 07, 2022
Former Super Eagles captain and two-time African Footballer of The Year winner Nwankwo Kanu on Sunday reminisced on his playing days at Arsenal with a short but heartwarming video.
The Gunners are atop the table after beating Chelsea 1-0 at the Stamford Bridge courtesy of a Gabriel goal in the 63rd minute.
'Papilo' on 23 October 1999 scored a hat-trick against the Blues that paraded fellow Nigerian Celestine Babayaro in defence in an memorable Premier League clash that has ensured his name will forever be in the Gunners' folklore.
Following the club’s 1-0 win over Chelsea at the Bridge on Sunday in manager Mikel Arteta's 150th game in charge of the North London side, Kanu posted a hilarious video of himself on Twitter reenacting the commentary of legendary Martin Tyler on the day he scored those three goals with the line: "Kan U Believe It."
Kanu then pointed to an Arsenal crest on the wall of what seemed like the studio of a radio station.
Kanu's tweet elicited glowing comments from his fans in the Twitter space who recognized his iconic stature at the club.
Kanu played 119 league matches for Arsenal and scored 30 goals for the team under the legendary manager Arsene Wenger who bought him from Inter Milan in 1999.
Kanu's contract expired in the summer of 2004.
