Nigeria-eligible midfielder still on Chelsea's injury list for Man City game
Published: November 09, 2022Carney Chukwuemeka is unlikely to make his return when Chelsea take on Manchester City in a Carabao Cup third round clash at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
The England U20 international of Nigerian descent has not figured for Chelsea since coming off the bench in a Premier League game against Manchester United on October 22, missing consecutive matches with Brighton & Hove, Dinamo Zagreb and Arsenal.
Manager Graham Potter did not provide an update on the fitness of Chukwuemeka during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, but confirmed that academy stars Omari Hutchinson and Lewis Hall will be part of the squad to face Manchester City.
The potential absence of Chukwuemeka opened the door for Hall and Hutchinson to be included in the traveling squad.
Previewing the match against Manchester City for Chelsea's official website, club historian Rick Glanvill and club statistician Paul Dutton noted that the unfortunate Chukwuemeka is on the Blues extensive injury list.
The former Aston Villa wonderkid has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury and was not spotted in any training photographs this week.
Chhukwuemeka has appeared in three matches for Chelsea so far this season, all of them in the Premier League.
