Liverpool 2 Leicester 1 : Ndidi wears captain's armband, Iheanacho subbed in
Published: December 30, 2022Super Eagles duo Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho played for a combined 78 minutes in Leicester City's 2-1 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.
Friday's loss was the tenth of the season after returning from the World Cup break with two consecutive defeats.
The first goal of the night came from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall but the away side had the misadventure of two own goals from young Belgian defender Wout Faes in the 38th and 45th minute of the game.
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers stated in his pre-match press conference that Ndidi would need to wait patiently for his return to the starting lineup but shockingly went with the Nigerian to start alongside Boubakary Soumaré in the defensive midfield.
Ndidi however was subbed off in the 59th minute by Youri Tielemans.
The Nigeria international was wearing the captain's armband when the Foxes took to the pitch but handed it to Jamie Vardy, who replaced the injured Patson Daka in the 15th minute.
Meanwhile Iheanacho came off the bench in place of Ayoze Perez in the 71st minute. Six minutes after his introduction, the former Manchester City forward tried to tee up Harvey Barnes but his low cross was cleared by Joel Matip.
Leicester City are thirteenth in the provisional standings with seventeen points accumulated from seventeen games.
