Arteta promotes 19yo Ideho to Arsenal first-team training, winger's game inspired by Wilfried Zaha
Published: January 09, 2023
Spanish football tactician Mikel Arteta ran the rule over flamboyant Dutch-born Nigerian winger Joel Ideho this past weekend with a view to his possible inclusion in the matchday squad for tonight's Emirates FA Cup meeting against Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium.
Arteta monitored Ideho at close quaters on Saturday at London Colney and also in the first team's final training session on Sunday ahead of the trip to OX4 4XP.
This is not the first time Arteta has promoted Ideho to first team training this season, but the former Ajax Amsterdam wonderkid has yet to receive a call-up for a first team game since he inked a professional contract with the Gunners in October 2020.
Quoted as being pacy and accurate, the 19-year-old has cited Crystal Palace dazzler Wilfried Zaha as his role model.
Speaking to allnigeriasoccer.com shortly after joining Arsenal, Ideho stated : "I would say that my game is inspired by Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace because he's a creative player with fast pace.
"My strengths would be my pace and my actions one-v-one".
This season, Ideho has caught the eye in Cup competitions for Arsenal's development squad, scoring three goals in the Premier League Cup., and has appeared in five matches in the Premier League 2.
Known for scoring spectacular goals, Ideho has faced Football League opposition this term, making four appearances in the Papa Johns Trophy against Cambridge United, Ipswich Town, Northampton Town and Stevenage.
