EPL wrap : Iwobi nearly scores; Aribo, Iheanacho benched; Chukwuemeka, Edozie in action

Allnigeriasoccer.com's round-up of Nigeria-eligible players that were in action for their respective clubs in the English Premier League on Saturday, January 21, 2023.

In the early kickoff, Liverpool played out a goalless draw with Chelsea at Anfield. 

Carney Chukwuemeka, on as a substitute in the 82nd minute, could have been the hero for the Blues in the final moments of the game but couldn't get away his shot in time after he was slipped in by debutant Mudryk. 

New Chelsea signing Nonso Madueke was not named in the traveling party to Merseyside. 

 At the Vitality Stadium, neither Taiwo Awoniyi (groin injury) nor Emmanuel Dennis made Nottingham Forest's matchday squad in their 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.

Cherries manager Gary O'Neil could not count on the services of Dominic Solanke due a knee injury. 

Jaidon Anthony finished brilliantly from a tight angle to open the scoring after 27 minutes but Sam Surridge salvaged a point for the Reds with an 84th minute equalizer. 

Elsewhere, Wilfred Ndidi was left out of Leicester City's matchday squad in their 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove at the King Power Stadium. 

Kaoru Mitoma scored a stunning goal to give the Seagulls the lead in the 27th minute, Marc Albrighton equalised for the Foxes shortly before the break and Harvey Barnes put the Foxes ahead in the 63rd minute.

Teenager Evan Ferguson, with his third goal in four games, netted the equalizer with two minutes left to play. 

Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho remained rooted to the bench for the entirety of the game. 

At the London Stadium, a brace from Jarrod Bowen secured a 2-0 win for West Ham United against Everton. 

Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi, who went the full ninety, nearly pulled one back for the Toffees two minutes before halftime but drilled an effort onto the post. 

Southampton remain in the drop zone after a 1-0 loss to Unai Emery's Aston Villa at the St. Mary's Stadium. 

Aston Villa have three away wins under the former Arsenal coach thanks to Ollie Watkins' headed winner in the 77th minute. 

Making his fourth Premier League start, Saints winger Samuel Edozie subbed out after 61 minutes, while Joe Aribo was a non-playing substitute.
