Boost for Eric Chelle ahead of Nigeria squad announcement as Moses Simon resumes training at Nantes
Published: February 21, 2025
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has received a timely boost just weeks before unveiling his first squad list, as Moses Simon, one of the key players expected to feature in the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, has resumed group training with Nantes, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Simon could not complete Nantes' training session on Tuesday due to pain in his heel.
Providing a squad update on Friday afternoon, Nantes manager Antoine Kombouaré confirmed that the Nigeria international trained fully with the group ahead of Sunday's meeting with RC Lens at La Beaujoire.
In addition, Simon was pictured training with his teammates on Friday morning at the Jonelière Sports Center.
The Super Eagles forward is back in contention to be named in the matchday squad to face RC Lens.
He has been the standout player in what has been a dismal season for Nantes, who are three points above the relegation zone before the visit of Lens.
This season, the diminutive forward is the top assist provider in the French top-flight with seven, an honour he shares with Rayan Cherki (Lyon), João Neves (PSG), Ludovic Blas (Rennes) and Evann Guessand (OGC Nice).
Simon missed the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin in June 2024 due to a broken fibula he suffered while on international duty in a friendly against Mali.
Ahead of the crucial games in March, the Super Eagles injury room is beginning to empty, with Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, Victor Boniface, Wilfred Ndidi and Semi Ajayi making their comebacks after a spell on the sidelines.
