Nigerian forward on the verge of becoming a French citizen but ineligible to represent Euro giants
Published: February 23, 2025
Nantes' Nigerian forward Moses Simon has applied for French nationality, according to reports.
Foot Boom says that the Nigerian international has started the process of becoming a naturalized French citizen, and
if his application is successful, he will proudly hold both Nigerian and French citizenship.
Moses Simon remains ineligible to represent France despite the possibility of acquiring a French passport as he is already cap-tied to his country of birth, Nigeria.
In addition, the diminutive winger was not a French citizen when he played his first game for the Flying Eagles.
Having first joined Nantes on loan from CD Leganés in August 2019, Simon has now lived in France for nearly six years, with the Canaries signing him on a permanent basis the following season.
As a Nantes player, the GBS Academy graduate has totaled 189 appearances in all competitions, scoring 34 goals while producing 39 assists.
The 29-year-old marked a special moment in late January with the birth of his first son, who now joins his two older sisters.
Simon will not be the first Super Eagles player to be a legal citizen of two countries, as he is set to follow in the footsteps of Maduka Okoye, Calvin Bassey, William Troost-Ekong, Gabriel Osho and Alex Iwobi.
Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Ademola Lookman, and Semi Ajayi also hold dual nationality but are cap-tied to the Super Eagles.
