Osimhen, Lookman, Ola Aina or Moses Simon: Who is the best Nigerian player at the moment?

Nigerian footballers continue to shine in Europe's top leagues, with several players making headlines for their performances. 

Among them, Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Ola Aina, and Moses Simon have all impressed, but one player stands out as the best Nigerian footballer right now—Osimhen.

Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen has been Nigeria’s most dominant player in recent years. The 26-year-old striker played a crucial role in Napoli's 2022–23 Serie A-winning campaign, scoring 26 league goals and becoming the first African to win the Capocannoniere award for the league’s top scorer. 

His performances earned him the 2023 African Footballer of the Year award, cementing his status as one of the best strikers in the world.

His move to Galatasaray on loan has seen him continue his goal-scoring exploits, netting 20 goals in all competitions.

His ability to score from various positions, combined with his speed, strength, and finishing ability, makes him Nigeria's most valuable player at the moment.

Ademola Lookman

Ademola Lookman has been another standout Nigerian player, particularly for Atalanta in Serie A. His hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen secured Atalanta’s first-ever European title. 

The 27-year-old winger was also instrumental in Nigeria’s AFCON 2024 campaign, scoring three goals and helping the Super Eagles reach the final.

Lookman’s consistency and ability to perform in big games earned him the 2024 African Footballer of the Year award.

His dribbling skills, pace, and creativity make him one of Nigeria’s top players, but he still falls short of Osimhen’s overall impact and goal-scoring record.

Ola Aina

While attackers often steal the spotlight, Ola Aina has been a key figure in Nottingham Forest’s Premier League campaign. 

The full-back’s defensive solidity, versatility, and attacking contributions have been crucial for his club. 

Aina’s work rate and tactical awareness make him one of Nigeria’s best defenders, but defenders rarely receive the same level of recognition as prolific goal-scorers like Osimhen.

Moses Simon

Moses Simon continues to be a vital player for FC Nantes in Ligue 1. 

Known for his speed, creativity, and ability to create chances, Simon has been a consistent performer for both club and country. 

However, his goal contributions are not as high as those of Osimhen or Lookman, which places him slightly behind in the conversation for Nigeria’s best player.

While Lookman, Aina, and Simon have all performed well, Osimhen’s record-breaking achievements, goal-scoring prowess, and consistency make him the best Nigerian player right now.
