'Terrible' - Crystal Palace icon blames one Liverpool player for Iwobi's first-ever goal against PL leaders
Published: April 06, 2025
Crystal Palace legend Clinton Morrison has pinpointed a Liverpool player as the one responsible for Alex Iwobi’s goal in Fulham’s 3-2 victory over Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday afternoon at Craven Cottage.
Iwobi netted Fulham’s second goal of the encounter — his first-ever strike against Liverpool in the Premier League — after a mistake by Robertson gifted him possession.
The Nigerian international capitalized on the error with a deflected shot that beat goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.
The goal, which came after Ryan Sessegnon canceled out Alexis Mac Allister’s opener, marked Iwobi’s 13th goal contribution of the season, with eight goals and five assists in 31 league games.
Rodrigo Muniz scored the third with a brilliant display of skill on the edge of the box, slicing through Liverpool’s defense before calmly slotting home a composed finish.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Morrison criticized Robertson’s decision-making, describing his attempted pass as the root cause of the goal.
"It is a terrible square pass from Andy Robertson. He tries to play a diagonal to Curtis Jones and Fulham cut it out," Morrison said.
He added that Iwobi benefitted from a deflection but credited Fulham for capitalizing on Liverpool’s sloppiness.
"Once it comes to Alex Iwobi he is a bit fortunate, the shot takes a big deflection off Robertson. It is what Fulham deserve."
The win moves Fulham up to eighth in the Premier League table with 48 points, keeping them in the race for a potential European spot.
With seven matches left in the season, Iwobi will be looking to maintain his impressive form and help Fulham secure continental football next term.
