Blackburn Rovers coach reveals Nottingham Forest loanee Dennis' potential date of return
Published: April 07, 2025
Blackburn Rovers manager Valerien Ismael has offered a positive update on the recovery of Nigerian forward Emmanuel Dennis, confirming that the loanee is expected to return to action next week, along with Callum Brittain and Augustus Kargbo.
Dennis, who joined Rovers on loan from Nottingham Forest during the January transfer window, has missed Blackburn’s last two Championship fixtures against Portsmouth and Middlesbrough due to injury.
The 27-year-old had shown signs of improvement in form prior to the setback, notably providing an assist in the 2-1 loss to Cardiff City at Ewood Park.
The Nigerian international has endured a challenging spell in recent years, struggling to recapture the form that saw him score 10 goals and register six assists for Watford in the 2021/22 Premier League season.
After Watford’s relegation, Dennis made a high-profile move to Nottingham Forest but has since found consistent game time and form hard to come by.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of the midweek clash against Sheffield Wednesday, Ismael provided clarity on the injury status of his sidelined players.
"We’ve not lost anyone from the game against Middlesbrough, which is good news," the Blackburn boss said.
"All the players have recovered from that game and give us the possibility of making changes."
Addressing the fitness of the injured trio of Dennis, Brittain, and Kargbo; Ismael replied; "This week won’t be possible for some who are injured, but we’re hopeful that they will be back next week to give us more options and a different profile."
Dennis’ anticipated return could offer a timely boost to Blackburn’s attacking options as they look to strengthen their position in the Championship table.
The forward will also be hoping to reignite his career and possibly earn a spot in Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming Four-Nation Invitational Tournament in London this summer.
