Chelsea-linked Arsenal attacker Nwaneri receives words of wisdom from Super Eagles star
Published: July 09, 2025
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has offered words of encouragement to Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri, amid speculation linking the teenager with a summer move to Chelsea.
Nwaneri, who enjoyed a breakthrough 2024/25 campaign with the Gunners, scored nine goals and provided two assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.
Despite his impressive form, the 18-year-old is yet to agree on a contract extension with Arsenal, reportedly seeking assurances over consistent first-team opportunities.
Amid the uncertainty surrounding his future, Iwobi—an Arsenal academy graduate—revealed the advice he shared with Nwaneri and fellow Hale End talent Myles Lewis-Skelly during their meeting.
In a recent interview with The Athletic, Iwobi advised the youngster to stay focused on his game and keep delivering impressive performances.
"Keep doing you, there’s a reason you’re playing so early. Just keep on enjoying your football," Iwobi said.
Chelsea have emerged as a potential destination for Nwaneri, with the Blues gaining a reputation for giving young players regular chances to shine under their current youth-driven project.
Arsenal, however, remain keen to hold on to their academy gem, especially after losing top prospects Chido Obi-Martin and Ayden Heaven to Manchester United in recent transfer windows.
As negotiations continue, the North London club faces pressure to convince Nwaneri of his long-term role at the Emirates, or risk losing another promising talent this summer.
