Awoniyi, Jesus and Wood not enough: Nuno admits Nottingham Forest still need another forward
Published: August 16, 2025
Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo has confirmed the club's intent to sign another striker before the close of the summer transfer window, despite already having Taiwo Awoniyi, Chris Wood, and Igor Jesus in the squad.
Speaking during a pre-match press conference, Nuno outlined key areas where Forest need to strengthen to be competitive across all competitions this season.
"I think we need another option for the goalkeeper situation, on the defensive line full backs. I think we are OK in the centre halves," the Portuguese tactician was quoted as saying by The BBC.
"Dominguez is injured, Danilo is not here so we need midfielders, on the wings also."
However, it was his comments on the forward line that drew particular attention.
While Forest currently boast three centre-forwards, Nuno believes an additional striker is necessary to handle the demanding schedule ahead.
"In front we have Igor [Jesus], Chris [Wood] and [Taiwo Awoniyi] but maybe another body would be good because of the amount of games," he added.
Forest have been linked with Rennes forward Arnaud Kalimuendo, who enjoyed a prolific campaign in Ligue 1 last season, netting 17 goals.
The 23-year-old's arrival would add pace and versatility to Forest's attack, while also raising competition among the current options.
The possible addition would be particularly significant for Nigerian international Taiwo Awoniyi, who struggled for consistent form and minutes last season, eventually losing his starting spot to Chris Wood.
As the new Premier League season gets underway, Awoniyi will be aiming to rediscover his scoring touch and reassert his importance at Forest.
A strong start could also reignite his hopes of earning a recall to the Super Eagles squad ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
