Romano confirms Lookman was an option for Spurs, dismisses Fenerbahce and Galatasaray links

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur explored the possibility of signing Nigeria international Ademola Lookman during the recently closed transfer window.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that Spurs weighed up a potential move for the Atalanta winger before committing their efforts to Randal Kolo Muani.

"He was an option for Tottenham. I can tell you that Tottenham before going all in for Randol Kolo Muani considered the possibility to go for Lookman,” Romano said.

"Tottenham wanted to do a similar deal maybe a loan with buy option but Atalanta said forget about that. Bayern tried with an official bid and Tottenham thought about the possibility but was not even a chance, so Lookman at the moment stays at Atalanta unless something crazy happen.”

The Italian journalist also dismissed reports linking the Super Eagles forward with a switch to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray.

“Many questions on Ademola Lookman. If Ademola Lookman can move to Turkey with Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.

"Many reports but I am not aware of any move to the Turkish clubs for Ademola Lookman,” he explained.

Romano further disclosed that Bayern Munich had made an official approach for Lookman earlier in the summer, proposing a loan deal with a €28 million option to buy, but Atalanta rejected the offer outright.

"It's been a crazy summer for Lookman, despite the attempt from Bayern. Yes Bayern tried for Lookman, a loan deal with a buy option of €28 million."

"Atalanta, I am told didn't even replied to the deal from Bayern. For Atalanta, it wasn't possible to consider that fee, it was never a topic,” Romano stated.

The Nigerian international will now look to put the disappointment of the transfer window behind him and turn his attention to international duty with the Super Eagles.

The 27-year-old is included in Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Rwanda.

He will be eager to play a decisive role in helping the Super Eagles secure maximum points in both fixtures as they aim to revive their qualification hopes for the 2026 tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
