17yo Nigerian midfielder departs West Ham United for Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are set to announce the signing of highly-rated teenager Chinaza Nwosu from West Ham United, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

The 17-year-old midfielder of Nigerian descent is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in West Ham's Academy, having joined the Hammers at U9 level.

Forest have beaten several clubs to his signature, pulling off what is seen as a significant coup for their academy.

Nwosu, born in 2008, became provisionally cap-tied to England in October 2024 when he started against Malta in a European U17 Championship qualifier.

He had earlier represented the Young Lions at U15 and U16 level.

Known for his height, athleticism and technical quality, Nwosu made his competitive debut for West Ham’s U18s while still a schoolboy.

In his final schoolboy season, he featured in twelve U18 Premier League matches, starting eight, and was included in the squad for the FA Youth Cup tie against Southampton.

Last term, he stepped up further, making his FA Youth Cup debut and starting 17 matches in the U18 Premier League.

Nottingham Forest mutually agreed to part ways with Nigeria international Emmanuel Dennis at the end of August, while uncertainty lingers over the future of compatriot Taiwo Awoniyi after he failed to seal a deadline day move to a top European league.
