Exclusive: Kelechi Nwakali Trained With Arsenal; As SMART Victor Osimhen Rejected £4 Million Move To The Emirates Over Trials
Published: February 23, 2016
Nigeria U17 international Kelechi Nwakali was asked to train with Arsenal during his recent trip to London, with a view to being offered a preliminary contract by the Emirates outfit.
The decision taken by the club did not go down well with the central midfielder’ s elder brother, Allwell Nwakali, who told the Arsenal brass that they were in the English capital to sign a preliminary contract and not for trials.
The Gunners transfer policy stipulates that exciting teenagers that they have identified must be observed before signing a deal, a situation that led to Ultimate Strikers poster boy Victor Osimhen rejecting a 4 million pounds move to the Londoners prior to agreeing terms with Wolfsburg, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic snubbed a move to the club in favour of Ajax Amsterdam.
“Kelechi Nwakali was asked to train; trained the first day but the elder brother, Allwell, said no way will he continue the trials, that they are here to negotiate, ” a top source told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“Allwell Nwakali has now claimed that Kelechi is keeping fit with the physiotherapists and not doing trials.”
He added : “Dick Law, Arsenal Director of Football, told Victor Osimhen’s reps in black and white from day one that the boy must come for trials
“If Osimhen is a striker that broke a world record at the Fifa Under 17s, what is special about Nwakali?
“Why they brought in Kanu is that they wanted to use his goodwill so they escape the trials but Wenger will never circumvent his transfer policy.”
Diamond Academy goons have claimed that they are locked in talks with Arsenal and want to ensure the players’ welfare before signing on the dotted line.
“It is not true, a letter of intent was sent by Arsenal even before they traveled to London, so why are they negotiating for over a month?
“They are looking at the welfare of the players ? Do English clubs owe, that is impossible. Reading that denial by Diamond Academy, you’ll know there’s something missing,” he concluded.
Kelechi Nwakali was on the wishlist of teams based in Italy, Greece and Portugal before his journey to the United Kingdom and it is understood that his minders have tried to reestablish contact with the interested clubs as a result of the treatment from Arsenal.
